Lantus® SoloStar® is a user-friendly, disposable prefill pen delivering insulin glargine (100 units/mL), a long-acting basal insulin for effective 24-hour blood sugar control in adults and children (6+ years) with type 1 diabetes, and adults with type 2 diabetes. Its easy-dial mechanism and large dose window simplify daily management.
Effectiveness:
Provides steady, non-peak glucose lowering over 24 hours, reducing A1C levels when used with diet and exercise. Not for diabetic ketoacidosis-consult your doctor for personalised results.
Usage:
Administer subcutaneously once daily at the same time (e.g., bedtime) in areas like the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate sites to avoid skin changes. Use a new needle each time; never share the pen. Store unopened pens in the fridge; opened pens at room temperature (up to 28 days).
Dosage:
Individualised by your healthcare provider based on blood sugar monitoring-typically starting at 10 units/day for type 1 (adjust ±2-4 units) or 0.2 units/kg for type 2. Dials in 1-unit increments up to 80 units. Always follow your prescribed dose.
Side Effects:
Most common is hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)-monitor closely, especially when starting or adjusting. Others may include injection site reactions (redness, itching), weight gain, swelling, or allergic responses (rash, breathing issues-seek immediate help). Discuss risks with your doctor.
